Less than 1% of our patiens go back to the operating theatre

  • Unplanned returns to the operating theatre within the same admission is one of
the key standard clinical performance indicators required by the Healthcare Commission
for the private sector (from July 2006).
  • The figures are expressed as a percentage of total patients receiving a general anaesthetic.
  • There is a low rate of unplanned returns to theatre
despite the fact that three of our HCA hospitals
provide complex cardiac, cancer, paediatric and high
    dependency care.
  • HCA Hospitals have been routinely capturing this
data since 1998 as a part of a programme to improve
    patient outcomes.
