- The National Resuscitation Council standard is that all patients are shocked
within three
minutes of arrest. The HCA team achieves this 100% of the time.
- Following the introduction of new resuscitation guidelines in 2006, the HCA
team has trained more than 100 staff in the new procedures and updated
defibrillators to ensure 100% compliance with new standards.
- Cardiac survival rates have been significantly increased
with the introduction of an 'early warning' nursing
system (MEWS) which identifies at risk patients early
and transfers them to high dependency or ITU before
they suffer cardiac arrest. The introduction of the
MEWS system at The Wellington Hospital has been
widely acclaimed for establishing a ‘gold standard’
of best practice for the healthcare profession.
