    Cardiac survival rates have been significantly increased with the introduction of an 'early warning' nursing system (MEWS) which identifies at risk patients early and transfers them to high dependency or ITU before they suffer cardiac arrest. The introduction of the MEWS system at The Wellington Hospital has been widely acclaimed for establishing a ‘gold standard’ of best practice for the healthcare profession.
